Oh live music we have missed thee - what summertime is made for! There aren’t many things that bring the kind of energy and connection like a festival crowd havin’ it in a field - especially when the sound is amazing! Standouts this summer were The Olllam at Underneath the Stars and Amyl and the Sniffers at Forwards, Bristol. Pure inspiration.

If you listen carefully all locations all have their own sonic signature, and no more so than the Balearic Islands in August. This morning it was almost silent looking over the ocean at Torre Picada, until the sun appeared and the intense chorus of cicadas awakened in this coastal outpost. More a machine than a symphony, but impressive none the less!

Making the most of downtime in this wonderful city before a busy week of recording - wandering the streets of Barcelona and soaking up a true piece of classic minimalist calm at the Mies Van de Rohe pavilion. What a stunning find.

Many sounds require you to get right in for a clear recording, and bees are (unfortunately) no exception. Thankfully we could sneak the binaural head nice and close up to this orchard hive and retreat swiftly to hear the bees doing their thing. How amazing these tiny creatures are! #orchardsonics #busybees

Deep frost and the crunch of snow under foot has only just passed, but spring time feels real now with bud break well underway with the many sleeping trees starting to come alive once again - a real time of hope for new growth and ideas.

Being outside and immersed in nature is something we all need to stay grounded. We take this very seriously :) and make regular pre-dawn trips to wild spaces to experience the fresh air and morning soundscape unfolding. From the quiet of night, gradually slipping into the symphony of the early spring dawn chorus.

Big cities around the world all have their own character, but while walking the streets of New York at night after a long day’s recording, the evening soundscape was unmistakable - Oh NYC we meet again!

We have been working in collaboration on some Tellori beaker and coffee mug ideas with a local potter. Clean, simple design in terracotta, resulting in an extremely tactile object. We are very tempted to produce a limited run of these wonderful things - watch this space.

Time for some R+D - To keep the inspiration flowing you have to act on project ideas and take the time to test things out and so Mike has been out on the trails (again!), but with a range of miniature microphones attached to the bike to capture both the close up mechanicals and the wider soundscape of the trail.

Pure bliss recording at Thyme in the Cotswolds today - Walking the water meadows and learning about the varied flora and fauna in this wonderful place. I sit for a while and become surrounded by crickets.

Late May in West Iceland is peak spring time, with the light levels remaining fairly high even throughout the night. Nature’s soundscape is subtle yet uninterrupted; Incredible recording conditions.
